A decision to hand over the body of the martyr prisoner Marwan Harzallah next Thursday… He is among the 100 murdered prisoners whose bodies the occupation authorities are still holding 9/27/2026 Ramallah – The General Authority for Civil Affairs, in coordination with the Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners’ Affairs Authority, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club and the National Campaign to Recover the Bodies of the Martyrs, announced that the Israeli occupation authorities decided to hand over the body of the martyr prisoner Marwan Fathi Harzallah, from Al Ain camp in Nablus, next Thursday, 10/1/2026. The martyr Harzallah is one of 100 murdered prisoners whose bodies are still held by the occupation authorities, and among them is the oldest prisoner, the martyr Anis Dawla, whose body was held back in 1980. These cases come within a broader total that includes 805 Palestinian martyrs whose bodies are still held by the occupation authorities in number cemeteries and military refrigerators, according to documentation of the National Campaign to Recover the Bodies of the Martyrs. The institutions explained that the martyr Haraz Allah was arrested in January 2026, under the pretext of “incitement,” as claimed by the occupation authorities, before announcing his murder on March 28, 2026 inside “Megiddo” prison. The institutions held the occupation authorities and their prison administration fully responsible for his murder, stressing that his murder was a direct result of the policy of depriving him of the necessary treatment and health care, in the context of systematic violations against Palestinian prisoners. The institutions stated that Herzallah is one of 92 prisoners who were murdered since the beginning of the crime of genocide, while the fate of dozens of detainees from the Gaza Strip remains unknown, as their families continue to be deprived of information about their fate and places of detention, which perpetuates the crime of enforced disappearance against them. The institutions reiterated that detaining the bodies of martyrs constitutes an extension of the violations that the occupation authorities continue to practice against Palestinians even after death, and deprives families of their right to know the fate of their children, bid them farewell, and bury them according to their beliefs and traditions. She added that, in cases of handing over bodies, the occupation authorities impose strict restrictions and conditions on burial ceremonies, which in many cases include requiring burial at night, limiting the numbers of mourners, imposing an intense security presence, requiring financial guarantees, or transporting the body to areas far from the birthplace of the martyr and his family, which exacerbates the suffering of families and deprives them of bidding farewell to their children in dignity. The institutions stressed that detaining the bodies of martyrs, in addition to concealing the fate of dozens of detainees in the Gaza Strip, represents grave violations that affect human dignity, and raise legal responsibilities under the rules of international human rights law and international humanitarian law, including respecting the dead, treating the bodies with dignity, enabling families to know the fate of their relatives and recover their bodies, and respecting family life and religious beliefs. In this context, the institutions renewed their call on the international community to assume its responsibilities, work to end the policy of detaining bodies and forced disappearance, reveal the fate of all missing and detained persons, open independent and effective investigation and documentation mechanisms, hand over the bodies to their families without conditions or restrictions, and enable them to bury their children in dignity.
